Credit Card

Owning a credit card is a big responsibility.  If not managed properly credit card debt can get out of hand and cause a person undue hardship.  When used wisely, credit cards can be a valuable tool.  Prepaid and secure credit cards can help rebuild or build good credit, business credit cards can give small businesses additional borrowing power, and rewards credit cards offer special benefits. When applying online for a credit card it is important to shop and compare credit card offers.  Credit cards come with different benefits and privileges.  Finding the right credit card for you is as simple as taking the time to read the fine print and choosing the card that meets your needs.

Choosing the Right Credit Card APR

Most individuals with a credit card typically carry over a balance from month-to-month.  Doing so means you will most likely have to pay monthly finance charges on the balance of your credit card.  Carrying over a part of your balance from month-to-month, even a small difference in the APR, can make a big difference in how much you will pay in finance charges over a year.  The amount of finance charge you pay depends on your balance and the APR (annual percentage rate) associated with the credit card.  Maintaining a good credit score can help keep your APRs low.

When you apply for credit card online, compare offers that have 0% introductory rate.  Most introductory rates last anywhere from 6 months to a year and you usually need good credit to qualify for a credit card with a 0% introductory rate.  They are definitely worth checking into.

When comparing credit card APRs look to see if the APR is fixed or variable.  A fixed APR doesn't change, or at least very often.  If a fixed APR is going to increase, the credit card issuer must inform you of the increase.

While a variable APR may change from time to time.  Look for information on the credit card application and in the credit card agreement to see how often your card’s APR may change.

Remember, by paying your bill on time and maintaining a good credit score you can usually obtain good terms when applying for a credit card.
